Details from manufacturer
Shibudan Fan - Kumamoto's Kutami Uchiwa with a modern pattern is one of Japan's leading Uchiwa that inherits 400 years of history and tradition.
It is said that the beginning of the Kutami Uchiwa was in 1600, when a traveling priest of Marugame in Shikoku taught the method of making a Uchiwa as a reward for an inn.
By applying persimmon tannin to the uchiwa, Japanese paper is made durable, long-lasting, and has an insect repellent effect. The Kutami Shibu Uchiwa, which can only be made by Kumamoto's visitors, is said to be a prosperous business in the sense that "people will come" and has been used as a gift as a lucky charm.
Kurikawa Shoten is the only workshop that inherits the tradition of the visitors, which is one of the three major Uchiwa producing areas along with Marugame in Kyoto .
Since the astringent uchiwa is durable and long-lasting, we are impressed by our customers as gifts and souvenirs such as baby birthday gifts, 60th birthday gifts, wedding gifts, and company anniversary commemorations.
